The unique Batumi Botanical Garden founded more than one hundred years ago. In XIX century before the botanical Garden was founded there were two private villas, Japanese garden and seaside park. Because of quiet nature, soft air and always mild winter on Green Peak, in October, 1912 professor Andrei Krasnov founded Batumi Botanical Garden. Three dendroparks, Kolkhida forest sanctuary, 9 departments of flora divided according to the landscape-geographical principle, where more than 5 thousand kinds of plants existing in the world have been arranged on the territory of 111 hectares. It is worth mentioning that more than 80 sorts of Japanese camellia have been cultivated here.
Lagodekhi State Reserve
The Lagodekhi Reserve is located in Georgia's far northeast side, on southern slopes of Eastern Caucasus Mountains, at altitude 3.500 meters above sea level. Climate is half-subtropical. Lagodekhi State Reserve is Georgia's first reserve, established in 1912. The relief is sharply varied - high amplitude, various slopes of expositions, and deep ravines with rivers, create a roughly different physical - geographic conditions. Also, there is a beautiful waterfall of Lagodekhi Forest. There are about 1.500 species of flower plants observed in the reserve, including endemic varieties. The majority of wild animals and artiodactyls, spread across entire Georgia's territory, live in the reserve. From birds, we meet mountain eagle, mountain turkey, Colkhic pheasant, Caucasian black grouse etc.
Kolkheti National Park
The Kolkheti National Park is located in West Georgia, in the Kolkheti coastal plain lying between the mouths of the Tikori and Supsa. The Kolkheti National Park covers an area of 28 940 ha of land, spread over the administrative districts of Zugdidi, Khobi, Lanchkhuti, Senaki and Abasha and includes 15 742 ha of marine territory. (or: its area is 44413 ha. 21300 ha of it is covered by forest. The area of the protected water area is 15742 ha. The National Park is located between Lanchkhuti, Khobi, Senaki, Abasha and Zugdidi administrational regions, in 320 km from Tbilisi). The park was established in 1999. The National Park includes the Kolkheti State Nature Reserve and the Paleastomi Lake
Sataplia State Reserve
Sataplia State Reserve is a most multifarious and very rare monument. It is of complex character and contains geologic, paleontological, speleological and botanical monuments. In 1933, there was found a dinosaur trace. Sataplia State Nature Reserve was created in 1935 to protect geological, pale ontological, speleological and botanical monuments. Total area of the Nature Reserve is 354 ha., 209 ha from here is covered by forest. Sataplia Nature reserve is mountainous, great area of it is covered by most beautiful and multifarious wood strain Colchian type mixed forests. Mountainous Sataplia is located at 500 m. above sea level.The main attractions of the Nature Reserve are footprints of the herbivorous and predatory dinosaurs in the limestone.
Borjom-Kharagauli National Park
At the end of the 19th century, the blooming period of the town, a beautiful promenade was created along the small river Borjomula. The park area is 836,300 hectares. It has five entrances: Atskuri, Panavi, Nunisi, Borjomi and Marelisis. The promenade leads to the mineral water park where one can taste the famous water. A one hour (3 km) walk along the river leads to its source, where a refreshing jump in the natural summer swimming pool can be taken. Borjomi - a synonym for healthy, mineral water, spa and the lush green nature of Georgia. The Park itself is one of the largest in Europe - it covers more than 76,000 hectares of native forest and sub-alpine and alpine meadows.
Vashlovani State Reserve and National Park
The Vashlovani protected territories are located in Georgia's far eastern part, in Dedoplistskaro district, altitude 150-750m above sea level. It involves the Vashlovani Reserve, the Vashlovani National Park, and natural monuments "Eagle Gorge", "Tikhtitepa Mud Volcanoes" and "Juma Groves". The Vashlovani state reserve was founded in 1946. It takes in 8.034 hectares.There is a unique virgin forest of junipers. The reserve is the best example of diversity of kinds of landscapes, habitats, species of animals and birds in the country. Here is the highest concentration of reptiles and mammals in Georgia. The Vashlovani Park was finally established in 2003, holding 25.114 hectares of area.
Tusheti Protected Areas
The Tusheti State Reserve was founded in 1961, surrounding a 10.694-hectare area. The reserve was established with the aim of protecting and maintaining existing bio-diversity, rare animals and endemic genus of plants and those, being on the verge of extinction. There are some prominent species Caucasian aurochs, which is only several in the Caucasus, and is included in the Red List.The Tusheti National Park is the largest protected area in Europe. Total area is - 83.007 hectares. It was set up in 2003. The Tusheti National Park embraces alpine meadows, glaciers, origins of rivers, rare and threatened animals and endemic relict plants.
